American Bethanie Mattek-Sands took game, set and match for this year Wimbledon’s craziest outfit. The world number 31 turned up on Court 14 at Wibledon sporting a jacket which would make Lady Gaga blush. The tasselled bomber jacket made her look like an Elvis impersonator-turned-practice target for high-powered Rafael Nadal. At least a dozen tennis balls were stuck on the arms of the coat which achieved a new high of sartorial eccentricity. Arriving on court to play Japan’s Misaki Doi, giggles and gasps of surprise were heard as she paraded the jacket. Taking to court, Mattek-Sands revealed a short, white skirt matched with a one-armed, Lycra shirt. The asymmetric top revealed tattoos down her right arm, battling for attention with knee-length socks, a visor and two black anti-glare patches designed to protect her eyes from the (non-existent) sun.
